day one dawn pops of twigs and leaf-scuttle brought to his ear arcanely the long throated trail-call - air came damp under the windscreen coombs of the mountain fluted with hound voices threnody on the cooling air against distant semaphores above the soft green field smoking where the mist shoaled trees white as bone gray shrubbery hard-looking as metal in the morning miles on miles of high rolling country lightless and uninhabited roads ferruling through dark forests of own trees leading toward the caverns , the nether covens of pearls dusk sun sets like a red ball over the hill west of the house the sky is rose, lavender, black - roil of bodies and crashing wood a night for meteors eclipse coming in just a few days the ocean knows it - she can feel the moon she rises high on haunches ready to pounce her waves build and stretch finally the lip crumbles smashing against the pilings repeat pops of twigs and leaf-scuttle brought to his ear arcanely the long throated trail-call - the world awaits , rests , and breathes again
